On October 31st, a fire occurred in BASF's Citral production unit in Germany. Fortunately, there were no injuries but their factory suffered severe damages. On November 10th, BASF declared Force Majeure on Citral and all derivative ingredients until at least the end of March 2018, as their repairs will take several months before resuming production. Citral is a popular lemon ingredient used as an aroma compound and food flavoring so fortunately there are many other manufacturers of Citral around the world that can fill the demand for supply.
This is an exceptional event and unique in the history of the fragrance industry. The good news is that there are only a few of our fragrance oils that are using Citral from BASF that may be affected and need to be re-balanced with another manufacturers Citral. Most of our fragrances are not even effected at all. Our fragrance oils that were using the BASF Citral and have been re-balanced will appear on our site as "re-balanced as of (date)" in the fragrance name so you will know before placing your order.
To be clear, there may be olfactory, chemical and other differences between the previously provided formulations and the rebalanced formulations. We suggest you order sample bottles of any fragrance oils that have been re-balanced and test them to make sure they work in your formulations. Candles and Supplies is not responsible for any differences in your final product from re-balanced formulas.
We do anticipate a switch back to the original versions as soon as BASF resumes its normal supply which is currently estimated to be April 2018. We heavily regret all inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding during BASF's Force Majeure. Please contact us if you have any additional questions.
